Notes for this person
CHARLES HICKMAN, 67, DIES SUDDENLY Charles Hickman ,67, of Emerson, died suddenly Friday morning, January 9, in the home of his sister-in-law, Mrs. Gertrude Clark, near Emerson, where he had stopped while on the way to attend a public sale. He was seated in a chair when stricken. He was born in Round Grove township, son of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Hickman. With the exception of two years spent in Montana, he spent his entire life in Marion county. He was operating a small farm and dairy but had been more extensively engaged in farming during his early life. Regarded as one of Emerson's most useful citizens he gave much time in community work and at one time was president of the Emerson unit of the Marion County Farm Bureau. He registered for civilian defense Thursday, the day before his death and was one of the workers for the emergency Red Cross drive. He was a member of the Christian church and the Masonic fraternity at Philadelphia. Surviving him are his wife, Mrs. Laura Marksbury Hickman; one daughter, Mrs. Arthur Schaller of Nelsonville; three brothers, Frank and Paul Hickman of Butte, Mont., William Hickman of Quincy; and one sister, Mrs. Metta Scott of Hannibal. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at Emerson Christian church, conducted by the Rev. J. R. Uhler, pastor of the Palmyra Christian church, interment being made in Emerson cemetery. Graveside services were conducted by the Masonic order. The body was prepared for burial at Chambers funeral home in Maywood.
