Terry Dean Bentzel, 68, died at 8:50 p.m. Wednesday, June 21, 2006, at York Hospital. He is the husband of Patricia A. (Gable) Bentzel of York. Mr. and Mrs. Bentzel celebrated their 44th wedding anniversary September 23, 2005. Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Robert J. and his wife, Olena Bentzel, of Cockeysville, MD, and Trent D. and his wife, Suzette Bentzel of Windsor; and two grandsons, Cody and Mitchell Bentzel, both of Yoe. Terry was born March 10, 1938, in York, the son of the late Ervin J. and Lorraine (Roser) Bentzel. He was a 1956 graduate of William Penn Senior High and attended The University of Miami, FL. In 2005, he retired after 36 years as President & CEO of Ervin J. Bentzel & Son, Inc. insurance agency in Dallastown. He was a member of Messiah United Methodist Church in York. He was a past president of York Chapter #67, Izaak Walton League of America, and York Area Independent Insurance Agents Association. He also sat on the Advisory Committee of Normandie Ridge, York United Methodist Home. For many years he played saxophone in the Bob Huska Quartet. Terry was a Past Master of York Lodge #266, F&A.M. and Past District Deputy Grand Master of 42nd Masonic District from 1983 to 1992. He was exalted in York Royal Arch Chapter #199, York, and in 1998 served as Most Excellent High Priest. He was Greeted in York Council #21, Royal & Select Masters, and served as Thrice Illustrious Master in 1990. He was Knighted in York-Gethsemane Commandery #21, and served as Eminent Commander 1984-1985. Mr. Bentzel was a member of Penn Priory #6, Knights of the York Cross of Honour and Past Sovereign and Past Recorder of York Conclave, Red Cross of Constantine. He was a Past Sovereign Master of Sovereign Council #103, Allied Masonic Degrees Red Branch of Eire. He was a charter member of First Capital York Rite College #156. In Scottish Rite, he was a member of Harrisburg Consistory, A.A.S.R., Past Sovereign Prince of the Harrisburg Council of Princes of Jerusalem, 1985. He served as Commander-in-Chief, 1997-2000 and was Coroneted a 33rd Degree Mason, Honorary Member of the Supreme Council, Northern Masonic Jurisdiction, September 30, 1987, at Boston, MA. Terry was crowned an Active Member, Supreme Council, Northern Masonic Jurisdiction on September 25, 2001, at Indianapolis, IN, and was a Past Deputy for Pennsylvania. He was a member and past president of White Rose Scottish Rite Club, and a member of the Red Lion Scottish Rite Club, Scottish Rite Research Society, and The Royal Order of Scotland. Mr. Bentzel was a Life Member of York Forest #30, Tall Cedars of Lebanon and served as Grand Tall Cedar in 1983. He was a recipient of Legion of Honor given by The Chapel of Four Chaplains. He was a member of Zembo Temple, A.A.O.N.M.S. and Shepherds Unit, Pennsylvania College, Masonic Societas Rosicruciana In Civitatibus Foederatis, The Square Club of York, The Masonic Homes High Twelve Club #629, Conewago High Twelve Club #707, and was Charter President of First Capital High Twelve Club of York, #668. He was a member of Masonic Home of Pennsylvania Corporation. Terry was a recipient of Grand Cross of Color at Grand Sessions of the International Order of Rainbow for Girls and The DeMolay Honorary Legion of Honor. He also served in committee functions for numerous Masonic organizations and belonged to a number of fish & game clubs. Funeral Monday, June 26, Messiah United Methodist Church, York, his pastor, Rev. Mike Langford, officiating. Burial in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens. [York Daily Record]
