Sentinel, The (Carlisle, PA) - Monday, February 1, 2010 Glennwood M. Bickta, 78, of Carlisle died Friday, Jan., 29, 2010 at his residence. Born May 11, 1931, in Laureldale, he was a son of the late Edward J. Bickta and Elizabeth S. Heckman. Glennwood retired from the former United Telephone Co., with 30 years of service, first as a splicer and then a training instructor. He was a volunteer for the American Red Cross and a former member of the board of directors, chairman of health services, chairman of disaster services, and also a first aid and CPR instructor. He served on the Junior Achievement board of directors and as community coordinator and advisor to students. He also served on James Wilson Safe Harbour board of directors and the building committee. Glennwood was a member of the Middlesex United Methodist Church. Surviving are his daughter, Cynthia Keck, Carlisle; grandson, Jeffrey Keck, Maryland; two granddaughters, Lisa Keck Haulman and Nicole Keck Smith, both of Boiling Springs; five great-grandchildren, Jessica Keck, Rebecca Keck, Katlyn Clites, Bailey Parish and McKenzee Haulman; and one great great-grandson, Gavin McElroy. He was preceded in death by his wife Doris Bickta (Aichele), two brothers and two sisters. Memorial services will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 2 in the Middlesex United Methodist Church, 118 N. Middlesex Road, Carlisle, with the Pastor Tim Wheeler officiating. Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. until the time of the service Tuesday at the church. Burial will be held privately at the convenience of the family. Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home & Crematory Inc., 219 N. Hanover St., Carlisle, is in charge of the funeral arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to Middlesex United Methodist Church, 118 N. Middlesex Road, Carlisle, PA 17013, or Celtic Hospice, 220 Wilson St., Suite 100, Carlisle, PA 17013
