Meadville Tribune, 01 Mar 2011, Meadville, Pa.:: Dorman K. Zirkle, 91, of 17446 State Highway 98, Meadville, passed away Monday, Feb. 28, 2011, at Wesbury United Methodist Retirement Community, Meadville. Dorman was born in Barbour, W.Va., on July 15, 1919, a son of the late Andrew B. and Ouida Zickefoose Zirkle. On Feb. 8, 1940, Dorman married Mary E. Dougherty; she survives. In the early 1980s Dorman retired from the former Erie Lackawanna Railroad where he was employed as a conductor. He had previously been employed by the former American Viscose. A U.S. Army veteran during World War II, Dorman served his country from June 28, 1944, until his honorable discharge on Dec. 21, 1945. An avid gardener, Dorman enjoyed growing his own fruits and vegetables. For more than 50 years he operated a produce stand in Littles Corners. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. In addition to his wife, Mary, of 71 years, Dorman is survived by five children, 15 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; four sisters, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Dorman was preceded in death by a sister, Elva Thompson; and four brothers, Dowden, Arthur, Howard and Robert Zirkle. Family and friends are invited to call today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home & Cremation Services Inc., 330 Broad St., Saegertown, where the funeral will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, with the Rev. Robert Fuller, pastor of Littles Corners United Methodist Church, Saegertown, officiating.
