Mr. Robert P. "Tom" Gilmore, 77, passed away Sunday evening, Dec. 29, 2013, in Hospice Care Regional Inpatient Center. He had been in declining health. He was born Sept. 2, 1936, in Elkins, a son of the late D.H. "Pete" and Flo Gilmore. He attended the schools of Randolph County and was a 1954 graduate of Elkins High School. He began working for the Western Maryland Railroad in 1956 and remained with the railroad through the name changes of Chessie Systems and later CSX. He retired as trainmaster in Elkins in 1996 after 40 years of service. Tom is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Marie Gilmore. Also surviving are three daughters and their families, Debbie and John Bensey of Orlando, Fla., Kim and Stephen Gautschi of Aurora, Ill., and Bobbie and Herb Eppinger of Martinsburg. Six grandchildren, Courtney and Megan Bensey, Will and Calley Gautschi and Josh and Hayley Eppinger; one sister, Charlene Bennett of Morrisville, N.C., and eight nieces also survive. Tom was a lifetime member of Woodford Memorial United Methodist Church. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and a member of Elkins Lodge No. 108 AF & AM. He was a beloved husband, a much cherished father and an adored "Papa." Friends may call from 6 until 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 2, at Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. A celebration of life for Tom will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday from the funeral home chapel. The Rev. Bill Calhoun will officiate, and interment will follow in Maplewood Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice Care Regional Inpatient Unit, 169 Diamond St., Elkins, WV 26241, in memory of Tom.
