Carolene Howell Zirkle Pritt, 62, of the Files Creek community, passed away at 1:10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2003, at her residence. She became ill in 1989 and more critical since July. Death was attributed to cancer. She was born Aug. 31, 1941, at Mabie, the daughter of the late Virgil and Genevieve "Toots" Howell Zirkle. On June 18, 1971, she was united in marriage to Robert G. Pritt, who survives. In addition to her husband, she is survived by one daughter, Angela Dawn Ward and husband, Brad, of Bradenton, Fla., and two granddaughters, Dallas "Haley" Ward and Morgan Taylor Ward. Also surviving is one brother, Douglas Zirkle and wife, Paula; one sister, Mary Katherine Daniels and husband, Henry, of Mabie; three nieces; four great-nieces; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. One sister, Linda Zirkle, preceded her in death. Carolene was a 1961 graduate of Coalton High School. She was employed at Reidbord Brothers and at Elkins Lumber Co. until becoming ill in 1989. She was a wonderful person who loved the Lord and loved her family and friends. She was a member of the Rowan Memorial United Methodist Church at Mabie and attended the Harrison Community Church at Mabie and the Mount Carmel Baptist Church in Beverly where she was an active member in the Missionary Society until her illness. Carolene will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Friends may call from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. Saturday at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Leon Brown officiating. Interment will follow at the Mount Vernon Cemetery near Beverly. Donations may be made to Hospice Care Corp. 927 S. Davis Ave., Suite D, Elkins, W.Va. 26241 in memory of Carolene. The Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins is in charge of the arrangements for Carolene Howell Zirkle Pritt.
