Nellie Gay Zirkle, 93, of Volga, W.Va., died Tuesday evening, December 4, in the Talbott Personal Care Home, Belington, following an extended illness. She was born November 17, 1914, at Hall, Barbour County, a daughter of the late Philip Sheridan "Matt" and Dora (Bryan) Booth. On October 10, 1934, she was married to Elmer Clarence Zirkle, who preceded her in death on December 9, 1975. Survivors include two sons, Theodore James and wife, Dorothy Zirkle, Volga, Delbert Scott and wife, Shirley Zirkle, Lakeland, Ga.; three daughters, Mrs. Tommy (Katheryn "Kathy") Murphy and Mrs. Carl (Mabel) Campbell and friend, Gene Karickhoff, all of Volga; Mrs. Russell (Betty) Burr, Sebring, Oh.; one sister, Mrs. Gregory (Mabel) Smith, in North Carolina; twelve grandchildren and thirty great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by two sons, Aubrey Zirkle and Linwood Donald Zirkle; by two sisters, Kathleen Harris and Doris Renaldi; by three brothers, Clifford Booth, Archie Booth and Jesse Booth; by three grandchildren and by a special friend, Jerald McCauley. Mrs. Zirkle was a homemaker and farmer. She was a member of the Mt. Hebron United Methodist Church. She enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening, canning and quilting. She was a loving mother, friend and neighbor. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, December 8, 2007 from the Stemple & Forman Funeral Home, 385 So. Main Street, Philippi. The Rev. David Brown and the Rev. Randy Simms will officiate and interment will follow in the Mt. Hebron Cemetery.
