NTGOMERY, ERNEST JACKSON age 78 yrs. of Luray died Monday, 09 Nov 1964 at 2:00 a. m. at the Rockingham Memorial Hospital where he had been a patient for one week. Mr. Montgomery had been active up until his death. Born 29 Sep 1896 in Frederick, Maryland, he was a s/o the late Millard F. & Edwina C. Sedwick Montgomery. On 30 Jun 1919 he was united in marriage with the former Katye F. Zirkle, who survives. Mr. Montgomery attended the private school of teaching under the direction of John Booton of Luray from which he graduated in 1904. After graduation, he attended Shenandoah College & was then employed at the Oaklyn Station U. S. Post Office in Pittsburgh. He also worked for the W. B. A. Railroad in Pittsburgh for ten years. He returned to Luray in October of 1919, where he was a farmer & merchant until his retirement. He was a Charter Member & Director of the Farm Bureau, a past member of Land Mark Lodge in Baltimore & Royal Arch of Luray & a Director in the Federal Land Bank of the Winchester District. He was a prominent farmer & civic leader of the Springfield District & operated the Springfield Service Station for a number of years. At one time, he served on the County Appraiser Board & was on the ASCS County Committee for 25 years. Besides his wife, he is survived by 4 daughters, Mrs. Frances Hammer & Mrs. Mildred Sours of Luray, Mrs. Jane M. Alexander & Mrs. Evelyn Wright of Springfield. One son, Ernest J. Montgomery Jr. of Arlington. 11 grandchildren. One sister, Mrs. Eva Mahaffey of Rileyville. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, 11 Nov 1964 at 11:00 a. m. from the Bradley Funeral Home with the Rev. Blaine Blubaugh officiating with the assistance of Rev. John Bradley. nterment was in the Sedwick Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Homer Burner, Robert Huffman, Amos Brubaker, C. A. Shenk, Vernon Shenk & C. L. Carter. Honorary pallbearers were Lucian Carter, James Viands, Frank Keyser, J. Everett Will, Richard Sedwick, R. A. Shenk, Al Jobe, Douglas Bradley & Louis Viands.
