Mary JoAnn ZIRKLE

Obituary: CENTERVILLE, Ind. – Mary JoAnn Jones, age 79, passed away April 4, 2016, at her home in Richmond, Indiana. Born October 2, 1936, in Middletown, Indiana, to Rev. Ora and Alice Richie Zirkle, Mary graduated in 1955 from Middletown High School and met her husband, James, while performing at a talent show her junior year. They married a few years later and moved to Dayton, Indiana. In 1973, the family settled in Centerville where Mary was a devout homemaker raising four sons and adopted daughter. In her later years, she was active in church by scheduling pastors and preparing communion for Sunday services at Interfaith Apartments in Richmond, where she lived during her retirement. Survivors include her sons, James Robert (Lisa) of Richmond, Anthony Dwayne (Song) of North Carolina, Timothy Paul (Marlyne) of Centerville, Indiana, and Jonathan Jay (Diana) of Fishers, Indiana; adopted daughter, Leora Lynn of Lafayette, Indiana; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sisters, Viola Walters of Middletown, Indiana, Lena Lambert of Eaton, Indiana, and Velma Mountcastle of Tennessee; nieces; nephews; and many friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Dennis Jones, who died May 13, 1992; parents; sisters, Margaret Spearman and Lillian Howell; and brothers, Harold and George Robert Zirkle. Visitation for Mary JoAnn Jones will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, April 8, 2016, at Mills Funeral Home, 405 East Main Street, Centerville. Funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 9, 2016, at Mills Funeral Home. Private burial will be in Gravel Lawn Cemetery in Fortville, Indiana.
