Daily News-Record, Harrisonburg, Virginia, Friday, July 19, 1929: Monroe Zirkle, 90, dies in Shenandoah County Monroe Zirkle, one of the oldest residents of Southern Shenandoah county and a Confederate veteran, died yesterday at his home at Maynard's Mill from infirmities of old age. He would have been ninety years old had he lived until next January. He was one of the best known residents of his community. Three sons -- B. F. Zirkle, of Timberville, O. M. Zirkle, of New Market, and Luther Zirkle, of Forestville -- survive, as do two daughters, Misses Annie and Sallie Zirkle, who live at the Zirkle home. Funeral services will be held Saturday from the home at Maynard's Hill and interment will be in the family burial ground.
