Harrisonburg Daily News Record Monday Oct 10, 1994: Vesta Glick Zirkle, 82, of Broadway died Oct. 8, 1994, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Zirkie was born Feb. 8, 1912, near Centerville in Augusta County. She was a daughter of the late William J. and Ella Wise Glick. Mrs. Zirkie received her secondary education at the Centerville School. She attended Bridgewater College and graduated from the Rockingham Memorial Hospital School of Nursing with the degree of Registered Nurse. She took post graduate work at Tucker Hospital in Richmond. Following her marriage, she left the nursing career until 1967. At that time, she re-entered nursing at Rockingham Memorial Hospital, where she worked until retirement in 1977. Mrs. Zirkle joined the Summit Church of the Brethren near her home at the age of 15. Following her marriage, she became a member of the Timberville Church of The Brethren, where she served as superintendent of the Children's Sunday school. In 1946, her membership was transferred to the Broadway Presbyterian Church. She has been active in this church as a teacher, children's choir director, director of plays and special programs, and the church women's organization. During the 1950s, she was a founding and active member of the Parent Teachers Association of Broadway Elementary School. On March 27, 1935, she was united in marriage to John P. Zirkle. He died on March 27, 1979. Surviving are a daughter, Donna Miller of Syracuse, NY; three sons, Philip Zirkle of Laurel, MD, Douglas Zirkle of Richmond, and Randall Zirkle of Charlotte, NC; a sister, Grace Fleishman of Bridgewater; and four grandchildren. The family will receive friends 7-8 p.m. today at the Grandle Funeral Home in Broadway. A memorial service will be conducted by Dr. John McDonald and Dr. Marion Simmons Tuesday, October 11th at 3:00 p.m. at the Broadway Presbyterian Church. A private burial service will be held earlier Tuesday at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made either to the Hospice Program at Rockingham Memorial Hospital or the Broadway Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund.
