Born on the Zirkle family farm on the Shenandoah River near New Market, VA. He survived his bout with the 1918 flu epidemic in a trench in France during World War I. Retired USPS rural mail carrier. Died of liver cancer at Newton D. Baker vets hospital in Martinsburg, WV. Burial at Cedarwood Cemetery in Edinburg, VA.
