John Gardner GOOD

John was married 19 Dec 1917 in Shenandoah County, VA to Clara V. Zirkle. They had at least one child, Elmer Gardner Good (1918-1975), and were divorced by 1920. He was still divorced at the 1930 Census and was soon married to Elsie Iola Higgs. John and Elsie had at least one child, Virginia Lee Good (1934-2016). John's WW I Draft Card shows his date of birth 11 Nov 1894 in New Market, middle name Gardner. His signature on the card is clearly John Gardner Good. He is single (5 Jun 1917) and a farm laborer for W. C. Hoover in Timberville. He tried to claim exemption from the draft by stating "Have been sickly all my life" on line 12. The Veterans Administration Master Index shows John's date of birth 11 Nov 1893 and shows his middle name as Gordon. It also shows that he entered into military service on 4 Jun 1919 in spite of his claim of poor health. John died of a lung abscess in the Lee District of Shenandoah County.
