Roger Andrew SCHEBEL

Roger Andrew Schebel, 79, passed away Thursday, October 26, 2017, at Calvin Community in Des Moines, IA. A Memorial Gathering will be held from 5pm to 7pm on Friday, November 3rd at Iles-Westover Chapel. Roger was born February 9, 1938, in Detroit, MI, to Andrew and Verna (Buntrock) Schebel. Roger served in the Air Force in Detroit and Sioux City in the late 1950's. He worked for Dial Finance and then as a Vice President for Norwest Financial, retiring in 1995. Roger enjoyed playing softball and golf, bowling, and was an avid collector of sports memorabilia, music and movies. He was a perennial fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes and Detroit Tigers, and he loved animals, especially dogs. His greatest joys were his children and grandchildren. Roger is survived by his children, Debora (Kirk) Jones of Berea, KY, Greg (Wanda) Schebel of Orlando, FL, Rob (Heather) Schebel of West Des Moines, IA, Mark (Candace) Schebel of Iowa City, Iowa; stepchildren Paul Stump of Ottumwa, IA and Mary Jane (Jim) Hayden of Logansport, IN; his grandchildren Andrew, Aaron, Emily, Austin, Gabe, Molly, Clark, Max, and Maggie. He was preceded in death by his wife Jane (Stump) Schebel. Memorial contributions may be made to the Animal Rescue League of Iowa or First Federated Church of Des Moines.
