Waynesboro News Virginian-date of paper: September 1, 1948: Mrs. Etta Idahlia Zirkle died at 8:35 a.m. yesterday at her home on Route 2. She was born in the same house in which she died. Mrs. Zirkle was 70 at the time of her death, having been born April 20, 1878, widow of the late Luther Zirkle, daughter of the late Major Thomas and Fannie Coyner Awde. She was a life-long member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Ladd. The deceased is survived by and adopted son, Lee Zirkle of Route 2. She will rest at her late residence until the hour of the service, which will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Bethlehem Church with the service to be conducted by the pastor, Rev. T. Y. Mullins, with interment in the church cemetery. Active pallbearers will be councilmen of the church: John Showalter, William F. Coyner Jr., Sylvester Kite, Merlin Kiblinger, Jack Shiflett and Bowman Quick. Honorary pallbearers will be: Andrew Bowman, Erskine Bowman, William Theiroff, W. P. Wingfield, Dr. John T. Obenschain, Gideon Kiblinger, Elvin Kiblinger, Clemmer Coyner, Gordon Breuer, John Hailey, Luther A. Frank, Dr. H. F. White, Elwood Shiflett, Clarence Brownlee, A. E. Houff, A. f. Weaver, S. B. Harper, and William F. Kiblinger.
