Herbert Elsworth ZERKEL

Published in The Lima News, Saturday, December 7, 1974, page 4: Herbert E. Zerkel, 72, of 338 Hillcrest, Elida, died at 1:16 p.m. Friday at St. Rita's Hospital. He had been ill for nine years. He was born Sept. 18, 1902, in Springfield to Irvin and Lillie Holman Zerkel. He was married Aug. 2, 1930, to Mildred Louise Hesser, who survives. Also surviving are one son, Maury Zerkel of 306 Hillcrest, Elida; a daughter, Mrs. William (Charlotte) Holtzapple of 403 Sunnydale, Elida; five grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Nellie Courtney of Tucson, Ariz. He was a member of the Immanuel United Methodist Church in Elida and the Elida Lions Club. He was a former member of the American Township Zoning Commission. He served on the Elida School Board for eight years and was president of the board for one year. He was a former Sunday School superintendent. He was a retired employe of Holtzapple, Inc. in Elida. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Harter and Son Memorial Chapel in Delphos, Rev. Michael Jenkins and Rev. Clarence Carnahan officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery in Elida. Calling hours at the funeral home will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday.
