Samuel Henry ZIRKLE

Another marriage, which is worthy of more than a passing notice, took place yesterday, at a point a few miles this side of Pleasant Plains. The parties to it were Mr. Samuel Zirkle and Miss Libbie Whitcomb, a school-teacher. Mr. Zirkle took the southeastern-bound train at the Plains, and as it neared a crossroad between there and this city, he approached Conductor Merritt and asked as an especial favor to a man who was about taking one of the most important steps in life, that he would halt and let him off. The obliging official complied with the request, and Mr. Z. made a "bee line" for a little school-house situated a short distance from the track. A minister was present, according to previous arrangements, and when Mr. Zirkle entered Miss Whitcomb called a halt in the dull routine of proceedings in the school-room, laid aside her birch, and the two stood up before the man of God, and there, in the presence of the urchins, solemnly pledged their lives, their fortunes and their sacred honors, or something of that kind, one to the other. The bride then repossessed herself of her rod, called "books," the groom took his departure and "dug out" for the Plains on foot, and business went on again in that little country school-house as though nothing unusual had happened.
