John Frederick MCDONALD

Shelby County Herald, Shelbyville, Missouri, Wednesday, November 13, 2013, page 7: John Frederick McDonald, 82, Shelbina, died Friday, November 8, 2013, at the Harry S. Truman Veterans Hospital in Columbia. He was born on May 28, 1931, in Independence, IA, the son of James Worthington and Mabel Walton McDonald. He married Shirley Jean Zirkle Trussell on December 28, 1974 at the Shelbina Methodist Church. She survives. Other survivors include one son, James Robert McDonald, Shelbina; one sister, Anne Katcher and husband Glenn, For Smith, AR and one brother, Bruce McDonald and wife Sharon, Del City, OK. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Marie Sibert and two brothers, James McDonald and Dean McDonald. Mr. McDonald grew up in Charles City, IA. He served in the United States Air Force, serving in both the Korean and Viet Nam Wars. In 1948, he went to Germany and worked the entire Berlin Air Lift. After retiring from the service he worked at Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma City, OK. He also worked for the City of Shelbina for 16 years as a police dispatcher and water plant operator. John enjoyed military memorabilia and history. Graveside services will be held at the Shelbina Cemetery on Wednesday, November 13, at 2:00 p.m. Burial will be in the Shelbina Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Disabled American Veterans and USO.
