Albert KRANTZ

Albert has a rather remarkable record. Born at Hamburg, in 1448, he matriculated at the University of Rostock at the age of fifteen, and received a Master's Degree in 1467. He received his Doctorate in Theology and Canon Law at Mainz. In 1473, he became Lecturer at the Cathedral at Hamburg. The chair was a remunative position, and was the forerunner of the University of Hamburg. He held numerous offices; among them Dean, and Syndic of the Council. A syndic was one chosen to represent and transact business for an organization. He had a reputation as a diplomat, and in 1497 headed the Hanseatic Legation at Antwerp. He was also a respected historian. He died at Hamburg, 7 Dec 1517, as the "glory and pride" of his home city. His biography was published in the early 20th century.
