Notes for this person

Albert has a rather remarkable record. Born at Hamburg, in 1448, he matriculated at the University of Rostock at the age of fifteen, and received a Master's Degree in 1467. He received his Doctorate in Theology and Canon Law at Mainz. In 1473, he became Lecturer at the Cathedral at Hamburg. The chair was a remunative position, and was the forerunner of the University of Hamburg. He held numerous offices; among them Dean, and Syndic of the Council. A syndic was one chosen to represent and transact business for an organization. He had a reputation as a diplomat, and in 1497 headed the Hanseatic Legation at Antwerp. He was also a respected historian. He died at Hamburg, 7 Dec 1517, as the "glory and pride" of his home city. His biography was published in the early 20th century. He did not marry, and devoted his attention and his fortune to his nephew, JOHANNES OLDENDORP. Q: Ralph E.
