Known as Frederick W. Egloffstein.
He was the first one to employ ruled glass screens, together with photography, to produce engravings.
He would return to Germany in 1878. Reports of various dates of his death are the result of ignorance on the part of his American descendants.Most dates of F. W. von Egloffstein's death in the reference literature specifically cite Clarence Leon von Egloffstein (1889-1966) as the source for a death in London in 1898.
Topographiezeichner, Kartenmaler und Kupferstecher. Er wanderte 1846 zuForschungszwecken in die USA aus. Bis 1865 war er als Soldat im Sezessionskrieg beteiligt. Danach lebte er bis 1873 in New York, wo er sich an der Weiterentwicklung des Halbtonverfahrens in der Stichtechnik beteiligte.
