Martha was the wife of Simeon Mayo (1745-1813), both originally from Boston. Mrs. Mayo ran the Mayo School for Girls on Mayo Street, and taught the girls embroidery, among other things. They were known for makingfantastic genealogy embroidery quilts, which listed all of a family's ancestry.
