Umwerbung.  Vor ihrer Heirat hatte sie als Hausmädchen gearbeitet.  Nach ihrer Heirat lebten sie in Blue Island, Illionis.  Ihre Farm lag etwa 12 Meilen östlich von Chicago.  Um 1880 zogen sie nach Missouri.  Laut Clinton County Recorder of Deeds Book 37, Page 336, kauften sie am 16. September 1880 ein Stück Land von John und Elizabeth Lohman.  Es handelte sich um 206,73 Acres in Clinton County und kostete $5.168,25. Die Volkszählung von 1880 vom 26. Juni für Lyons Township, Cook County, Illinois zeigte auf Seite 48 Familie 397:  George Groebe im Alter von 46 Jahren, Farmer, geboren in Sachsen; seine Frau Caroline im Alter von 41 Jahren, geboren in Sachsen und acht Kinder, alle geboren in Illinois.  Sie waren August (15 Jahre), Emma (13 Jahre), Bertha (12 Jahre), Millie (10 Jahre), Ida (8 Jahre), George (6 Jahre), Laura (3 Jahre) und Mina (1 Jahr).
