Charles Friederich Wilhelm "Carl" Jacobsmeyer

Black Jack, St. Louis County, Missouri, USA

Birth: Nov. 17, 1784 Death: Sep. 4, 1870 Black Jack St. Louis County Missouri, USA "Carl" was the son of Bernhard Wilhelm Jacobsmeier (born 1738) and Anne Catharine Elisabeth Botterbusch (about 1760-1819). Carl was baptized in November 1784 in Löhne, Westfalen, Germany. Carl was married to Anne Marie Clare Pahmeier in Löhne. The couple came to America with a son on a ship named the Olbers. The family departed from Bremen, Germany and arrived in New Orleans, Louisiana on 4 Apr 1840. Some family genealogists have suggested that it was likely that some of their other sons had come over first, and then sent for their parents and younger brother. Carl became a naturalized citizen of the United States on 30 Jul 1853. As documented in the St. Louis Circuit Courts Record Book, Volume 2, page 307: "Carl J. Rupper, Carl Friederich Jacobsmeier and William Priestmire natives of Prussia who apply to be admitted citizens of the United States come and prove to the satisfaction of the Court that they have resided in the United States at Least five years and in the State Of Missouri at least one year immediately preceding this application during which time they have conducted themselves as men of good moral character attached to the principles of the constitution of the United States and well disposed to the good order and happiness of the same and the Court moreover being satisfied that said applicants have taken the prepatory steps required by the laws of the United States concerning the naturalization of foreigners and they declaring here in open Court upon oath that they will support the constitution of the United States and that they do absolutely renounce and abjure forever all allegiance and fidelity to every foreign power prince state and sovereignty whatsoever and particularly to the King of Prussia of whom they are at present subjects therefore the said Carl Rupper, Carl Friderick Jacobsmeier and William Priestmire are admitted citizens of the United States." A widower by 1860, Charles lived with his son, "Fritz" Jacobsmeyer in north St. Louis County, Missouri, and worked as a hand on the Jacobsmeyer family farm for a number of years. At the time of his death, Charles was 85 years, 9 months and 18 days old. Known children: 4 sons. Father of: Johann Carl Friedrick "Charles" Jacobsmeyer Friedrich Wilhelm "Fritz" Jacobsmeyer Wilhelm "William" Jacobsmeyer "Frank" Jacobsmeyer Charles' siblings: Henrich Wilhelm Jacobsmeier Johann Henrich Jacobsmeier Anna Marie Jacobsmeier Children: Charles Jacobsmeyer (1810 - 1900) Friedrich Wilhelm Jacobsmeyer (1814 - 1893) Wilhelm Philip Jacobsmeyer (1816 - 1893) Burial: Salem Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery Black Jack St. Louis County Missouri, USA
