Toldsted
I slutningen af 1400-tallet oprettedes et toldsted ved Nybøl. Nord for byen udmundede den gamle betydningsfulde Ribevej i Hærvejen, så der dannedes et knudepunkt for trafikken.
Flere danske konger har gjort ophold på Toldsted, som ikke kun var toldopkrævningssted, men også kro, "post-hus" og brændevinsbrænderi.
