Per Ruth Hall:
The Doolittles were from England and landed at Plymouth Rock. They
were mother's (Estelle Rieter) great great great grandparents. Dad's
mother and dad were both born in Ireland but did not meet until herein
Iowa. I believe in Clinton, Iowa. I think Dad was born there; at least
he lived there as a child. He was 6 years older than Mother and had one
sister 10 years older than he. His mother was a strict Catholic.
I believe Mother told me her Dad was French and German, hence the
name Reiter. Her motherhad been married before to a man by the name of
Button, I believe. He just came and went so she divorced him. I
remember her. She lived in Washington state, Takoma, I think and died
while I was in Washington, DC during the FirstWorld War. I think she
was 86 or 87 years old. Visited us one time in Redfield when Maurice was
probably a child. Maybe it was even before he was born. She knitted
things for the soldiers during the war. I remember she was doing that
the last I heard before she died.
Mother and Father were married onher 18th birthday, the 13th of either
Dec. or Jan.
