They rode at night and slept during the day. They rode to EaglePass and swam silently with their horses across the Rio Grande by moonlight into Mexico at Piedras Negras to join up with a Union Army patrol that was waiting for them on the other side of the river��� (Letter, Charlie Buchner of Friendswood, Texas to Mary Ann Jonas Fortin of Harlingen, Texas, October 4, 2005). Buchner’s great-great-grandfather was Henry Rochau. Buchner’s letter incorporatesinformation in the eulogy delivered by the Reverend Ziehe at graveside on January 12, 1936 [copy with Mary Ann Fortin of Harlingen received from Alice Dischinger Oberkampf, December 1998]. In the 1890Veterans Schedule, Adolph is listed in the Kendall County, Precinct 2/3 enumeration.
