From: Geneology of the Anthony Heisserer Family, Compiled by: Ramona Blattel Glastetter, page 55:He came to America, with his parents, the family settling near New Hamburg. He grew to manhood in ScottCounty. He served as a Private in Company E--18th Illinois Infantry Regiment on the Union side during the Civil War. He was in the battle of Shiloh and several of the other important engagements. Hisfather was blind and had a large family which made it necessary for young Vincent to get our and work. He was always in the forefront of progressive moves, and was very active in helping Louis Houckpromote his railroad through Scott County. He was also regarded as one of the best wheat binder mechanics in this whole country.
