August betrieb neben seinem Beruf als Schrankenwärter eine 7 Morgen große Nebenerwerbs-Landwirtschaft. - 1911 erwarb er das "Haus Benteler". 1933 baute er auf dem von ihm erworbenen Nachbargrundstück (heute: Talleweg 4) in für Marienloh ungewöhnlicher Klinkerform ein für damalige Verhältnisse großes Wohnhaus, da die Wohnverhältnisse im "Haus Benteler" zu beengt geworden waren.
