geboren23.5.1879 Winterthur,gestorben16.2.1939 Zürich, von Winterthur. Sohn des Josef Krzymowski, aus Lask (Polen), naturalisierten Flüchtlings, Lehrers am Gymnasium Winterthur, und der Lucie geb. B., aus Lübeck. ∞ 1905 Marie Jerosch, promovierte Geologin, aus Ostpreussen. Schulen in Winterthur, landwirtschaftl. Praxis, Stud. an der ETH Zürich, 1902 dipl. Ing. agr. 1901-04 Assistent bei Carl Schröter, Stud. der Naturwiss., 1906 Promotion. 1909-33 PD an der Univ. Zürich, Kurator des Geobotan. Forschungsinstituts Rübel in Zürich. Ab 1920 Lehrer für Geografie an der Kant. Oberrealschule, später auch an der Handelsschule. Vielseitige wissenschaftliche und praxisbezogene Tätigkeit auf den Gebieten der Geobotanik und des Heimatschutzes, bei der immer mehr die Wechselwirkung Mensch-Vegetation ins Blickfeld rückte. Dies führte B. auch zur Volkskunde (Volksbotanik, Bauernhausforschung). Wichtige Werke waren die "Vegetationskarte der Welt" (1930) und das zweibändige "Schweizer Volksleben" (1929-31, franz. 1931) mit für seine Zeit einmaligem fotograf. Material.
