STALBAUM VIOLA STALBAUM, GUS BRANDT, JOHANNA 08/06/1927 F -- Austin County, TXGenWeb Viola Norine (Stalbaum) Witte was born August 6, 1927, in Bellville,, the daughter of Gus I. and Johanna (Brandt) Stalbaum. She grew up and attended school in Bellville. On October 24, 1945, she was united in marriage with Dennis Fred Witte. They made their home in Bellville where they were members of St. John Lutheran Church. Dennis preceded Viola in death in 1971. A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, Viola treasured the time she was able to spend with her children and grandchildren. She loved baking, gardening and sewing. An excellent seamstress, she had sewn her daughters’ wedding dresses. She was a member of the Texas Aggie Mom’s Club, and enjoyed entering baked goods at the Austin County Fair for which she had won numerous awards. Viola had also won a number of awards at the Austin County Pecan Show. Viola had previously been employed as the head checker in the grocery business. For the past 15 years, she had worked as a caregiver for the elderly and shut-ins. She passed away suddenly Saturday, July 26, 2008 at her home in Bellville at the age of 80. She is survived by her son Charles E. Witte and his wife, Betty, of Bellville; daughters Vivian Witte and her husband, Mike, of Palacios and Susan Young of College Station; and grandchildren Sarah Kate Young of Fort Worth, Mark Douglas Young of Tempe, Arizona, Charles Owen Witte of Brenham, Clayton John Witte of Brenham and Caroline Johanna Witte of Lubbock. She is also survived by her brothers: W.L. Stalbaum and his wife, Margie, of Austin; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many other friends. Viola was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her son-in-law, Melvin Young, brother, Gilmer Stalbaum, and daughter-in-law, Mickie Stalbaum. Body will lie in state from 5-7 p.m.. Tuesday, July 29, 2008, at the Schmidt Funeral Home Chapel in Bellville. Funeral Service will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday, July 30, 2008 at the St. John Lutheran Church in Bellville with Pastor Jennie Jones officiating. Burial will follow in the Pilgrims Rest Cemetery. In lieu of usual remembrances, friends who wish may make memorial gifts to the St. John Lutheran Church, 520 North Holland, Bellville, Texas 77418.
