MAXINE Genevieve HESSE

Maxine G. Gilbert, 79, of Paxico, Kansas, died Sunday, December 28, 2008 at St. Marys Manor in St. Marys, Kansas. She was a life-long resident of the area. Maxine was born November 30, 1929 near Paxico, Kansas, the daughter of Leander and Irene Straub Hesse. Maxine worked as a Customer Service Representative for Blue Cross Blue Shield in Topeka. She retired in 1991 after 23 years of service. Maxine was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Newbury and the churchs Alter Sodality. Maxine married Arnold B. Gilbert in 1959. He preceded her in death on August 9, 1964. She is survived by one daughter, Katherine Hernandez, Eudora; four sons, Douglas Gilbert and his wife, Rebecca, El Cajon, California, Joseph Gilbert, Paxico, William Gilbert and his wife, Kathy, Newbury, Kenneth Gilbert, Topeka; two brothers, Felix Hesse, St. Marys, Robert Hesse and his wife Naomi, Topeka; a sister, Lavina Nicholson, Osage City; thirteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Thomas Gilbert in 1990 and a sister, Darlene Goss. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, January 2, 2009 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Paxico. Burial will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery in Topeka.
