Col.</p> <p>STEPHEN LESKO, 76, of 713</p> <p>Altamira Road, Las Vegas, Nev.,</p> <p>died Monday in Valley Hospital,</p> <p>Las Vegas, where he had been a</p> <p>patient forone day.</p> <p>He was the husband of Anna</p> <p>(Barna) Lesko.</p> <p>Born in Reading, he was a son</p> <p>of the late John and Elizabeth</p> <p>(Nadzam) Lesko.</p> <p>Lesko joined the Marines in</p> <p>1925 as a private and served for 30</p> <p>years until retiring in 1955. He was</p> <p>a veteran of World War II and the</p> <p>Korean War.</p> <p>He was a member of St. Nicholas</p> <p>RussianOrthodox Church,</p> <p>Reading.</p> <p>In addition to his widow, he is</p> <p>survived by a son, John E. of</p> <p>Franklin Lake,</p> <p>Two daughters: Mary E., wife</p> <p>of Brian Bowden, Alexandria, Va.,</p> <p>and Anna Starr, Malvern, and six</p> <p>grandchildren and a</p> <p>Three brothers: the Rev.</p> <p>Michael Lesko, Stroudsburg, John</p> <p>A. of and Paul of</p> <p>West Lawn.</p> <p>Also a sister, Mary L., widow</p> <p>of Ernest Schonour,</p> <p> </p>

From 1937 to 1940, payments were made in one-lump sums amounts with the first amount being seventeen cents. Following amendments in 1939, the payments turned into monthly benefits and increased. Following further amendments in 1950, cost-of-living increases were awarded to those who were receiving benefits. From 1950 to the present, benefits have increased yearly in response to inflation concerning the costs of living. |
