Anna Lemkau never married the father of her son, Claus Frederick Lemkau. Some time after his birth she married a Henry or William (two of her children's death certificates have two different first names of their father ..... great group) Oellrich. Anna did spell it with the two "LLs". The relationship seemed very estranged between Claus and his mother, as well as the new family. Anna and Claus seemed to keep everything very quiet and secretive. We believe his birth circumstances were the reason he would never reveal anything about his past, making our research very difficult to say the least. He left Germany alone at the age of 19, in 1882. When she and her children came to Le Sueur in 1888, within a year or so later he took off and moved to San Francisco and never saw her again, that we know of. Claus had covered his story by saying he was born in Freiburg/Elbe. Even my father-in-law tried to get his records from there, without success. Little did my father-in-law know, that Claus didn't reveal his right birth place. The truth being he was actually born in the same village as Anna Lemkau (his mother) which was See/Oederquart.
