Subject: Re: Mary Rockey question

Karl - There was also another Mary Rockey - wife of John Rockey and she was a Ruhl. But according to research done by Israel T. Ruhl in the 1920s, John Ruhl, son of George Philip Ruhl and Elizabeth Hochlander married Mary Rockey, b 1796, daughter of William Rockey and Margaret who owned the mill. Would you like me to send you that information?

Your research is remarkably well-documented, I am extremely impressed. Thank you for being so thorough, and making this available online. Karin

Hi Karin,
Thanks for your message. I do have a Mary Rockey born after 1796, daughter of William Rockey & Margaret Ledder, but I don't know what happened to her. Her notes will explain why I think there was an earlier daughter also called Mary.
I also have a Mary Ann Ruhl who married a John Rockey, she was the daughter of Philipp Ruhl & Sarah (probably Smith),
Please have a look on my rootsweb page which lists all my notes and sources :
http://wc.rootsweb.com/~kh1
My tree is also on ancestry.com, there I have posted some notes from the 'Chamberlin papers'.
Also please check the Rockey, Ruhl and PA Union County message boards on rootsweb and genforum.
Fingers crossed you find something useful for your research, I can also recommend mocavo.com for US research.
kind regards

Subject: question

Dear Mr. Held,

I am doing some research for a co-worker and she is descended from a Mary Rockey b c1796 d 1846 in what is now Union County, PA whose mother is said to have been Margaret and her father William Rockey who bought Rockey's Mill. In your posting on the internet you speculate that Mary may have died young. The Mary Rockey I am researching married John Ruhl b 1793 Lancaster County, PA d 1882 buried Laurel Run Cemetery Laurelton, PA m 1st Mary Rockey, m 2nd Anna Moore, widow of Jacob Smith.

Would this be the Mary Rockey, daughter of William and Margaret Leader/Ledder?

Was there more than one Rockey family to come to what was then Northumberland County?

Any help would be appreciated, and this hopefully might be a piece of the Rockey genealogy for you to add.
