Sigmund Herels extra large, Epitaph described by different Hersbrucker Chronisten, is located in the Hersbrucker town church. Who was this man, where in lain his performances? Because if it such an honor assign became, then it must have been nevertheless somehow important. And now we are disappointed by the facts: Sigmund Herel was the rich son of the great father, the Hofpfalzgrafen and consul Dr. Johann Herel; it does not have to indicate own more important performances. He died already in his 26 th year. The ring-back signal on the Hersbrucker Epitaph knows therefore only from its journeys, its marriage, to report to its three early deceased children and its charitable donations. But this charity is it straight, which lifts it out from the number of its contemporaries; its donations because of may be reported here on it. Sigmund was born on 25 September 1592 as a son of Dr. Johann Herel in Nuernberg. His mother was the second Mrs., Rosina Held von Hagelsheim, the widow of Endres Kress. At the age of 11 years (1603) Sigmund lost his father, at the age of 13 years (1605) also his mother. Who the adopts this parentsless boy, we do not know ourselves. On 21 August 1605, some weeks after his mother death, the 13 year old is registered at the academy of Altorf as a pupil of the High School. From these Altdorfer time it is well-known to us that Herel in the spring 1607 together with Johann William Kress, his later brother-in-law, with Magister Philipp Arenboek, city clerk,, at one and a half year long to desk gone
