From "Blockhouses and Military Posts," p. 68 listed under the name Hieroni
mus Mingus, providing that a Sophia Case taught school in 1815 in Berlin H
eights and mentions among her scholars James, Benjamin and Ann Mingus. S
ee also same reference providing that Benjamin was born in 1783 and di
ed in 1834, and that his wife, Mary H. (Potter) Mingus died in 1835. Acco
rding to the records of Sharon Cooper [now deceased], both Benjamin and Ma
ry (Potter) Mingus are buried in the Old Cemetery in Berlin, Erie Count
y, Ohio. From the "Firelands Pioneer," (Nov. 1858) at pp. 35-36: "Benjam
in...married Mary Potter, daughter of the well known Elder True Potte
r, of the Methodist Church, and settled and remained for a ong time on t
he farm where his father located, and now owned by Charles Tillinghas
t. He [Benjamin] died in Townsend, Huron County, whilst making preparatio
ns to move to Indiana." According to the DAR "Early Mar. Bonds of Ohio, M
ar. Records of Huron County, Vol. 1," at p. 102, Benjamin Mingus married M
ary Pattee on June 8, 1827 and wedding was officiated by S. Ruarks. T
he following is from the notes of Sharon Cooper, letter dated Februa
ry 8, 1975: "At a Called Court held at Norwalk [Ohio on] January 27, 18
37 the Hon. D. Higgins, Judge..." appointed guardians for Elisa-aged 8 yea
rs; Clark--aged 6; Trew--aged 5; and Alonzo-aged 2 years of age. They we
re listed as the minor children of Benj. Mingus, deceased and the guardi
an assigned was Trew Pattee, with Levi Parsons and Ashley Hollister accept
ed as surieties in the sum of $1,000.00 While Elizabeth Mingus appea
rs to be buried near her grandfather, Hieronimus Mingus, the other childre
n's whereabouts are unknown at this time. For more information on this li
