William Joachim Ernst SCHLEIF

WILLIAM SCHLEIF William Ernst Joe Schleif son of August and Elsie Hasenbank Schleif was born March 7, 1879, in Kaw Township, Wabaunsee County, Kansas. He depart this life on April 7, 1947, in a Westmoreland Hospital at the age of 68 years and 1 month. On April 9, 1893, he was taken into the membership of Immanuel Evangelical and Reformed Church at Wells Creek, by the Rev John Abele. Although the moved to other communities, this remained his church home. He received his education at School District 54 in Kaw Township, Wabaunsee County. On July 29, 1909, he was married to Pauline W. E. Bark at Clarence, IA. To this marriage six children were born. The family has lived in IA near Manhattan, KS and recently moved to a farm north of Wamego. Mr. Schleif pursued the occupation of faming and also did some carpenter work from time to time. He was preceded in death by a brother, August, an infant sister Lizzie, and infant daughter, Irene. He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Myra Sifuentes of chino, CA and Viola Underriner of Wamego; three sons, Elmer and Erwin of Wamego and Harold of Corning, KS; four sisters, Emma Kensing of Junction City, KS, Amanda Schwanke of Maple Hill, KS, Mary Beeler of Wamego,k and Linda Hackler of Buffalo, MO; two brothers, Henry of Los Angeles, CA and Fred of Wamego; nine grandchildren and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. A. Vernon Kurz at the family home and at Immanuel Evangelical and Reformed Church at Wells Creek. His pallbearers were Harry Raine, Dan Johnson, Wm. Boyce, "Dud" Cutright, Charles Asbury and Val Zeller. Burial was at Greenwood Cemetery
