HANS H. HASENBANK
Hans Henry Hasenbank, in whose memory this is written, was born in Othensdorph, Germany, on March 12th, 1865. In the land of his birth he secured his education and also served in its military activities for about tow years. it was at this time, when he was a young man of about 24 years of age, that he decided to come to this country to make it his future home. Acting on this decision, he came to American in 1889 and immediately on westward to Clinton County, Iowa.
There he engaged in farming activities for approximately three years. He then came to Kansas and after a time made the acquaintance of Miss Sophie Holz. This friendship was destined to culminate in the next happy event in the lives of these two young people as they were united in life's companionship on March 8th, 1895, in the Wells Creek community in Wabaunsee county. There they resided for a time and then for about fives years they lived in Iowa. During the balance of their lives they gave continued to make their home in the southern part of Pottawatomie County,, not far removed from their present place of residence.
To Mr. and Mrs. Hasenbank has come the privilege of rearing a family of eleven children, all living. to have enjoyed each other as well as the companionship of these sons and daughters, has it own rewards and now that the family circle has been broken for the first time by death, many happy memories will be recalled as time goes by.
He has continued throughout life in his chosen vocation of farming and his ability, helpfulness, and his place as neighbor and friend and his kindly qualities will be pleasantly recalled by those who knew him. To his immediate family he was a kind and considerate husband, a loving and devoted father, and a lover of children who was given the privilege of also bestowing this natural affection up on grandchildren as well as his own. In fact he always appreciated the association of young people. This fact kept him young in mind even as old age approached. His own serene and cheerful nature coupled with a happy disposition will ever remain a cherished memory to his loved ones.
During the last ten and eleven years, he has gradually been failing in health but it was early Tuesday morning, February 3rd that he was stricken with the illness which caused his death about five days later on February 8th near the midnight hour. His life had covered a span of 76 years, 10 months and 26 days, and an association with his now bereft companion of 47 years less one day.
Those who will miss him most are the other 12 members of his family including Freda, now Mrs. George Adolph of Manhattan, Emma, now Mrs. harry Smith of St. George, Hilda, now Mrs. Lynn Mayer, of Wamego, Helen, now Mrs. Frank Kanode, Jr., of Westmoreland, Cleo of Manhattan, Harry, George, Elmer, Edward, Lester and Esther of the home, as well as 21 grandchildren and one great grandchild. He also leaves one brother and three sisters, all residing in Iowa.
To these relatives and other friends who have lost loved ones in death, we can only offer the feeble human attempts at sympathy but God's revealed Word to mankind carries with it the assurance that he has provided a resurrection for the dead and Kingdom in the earth wherein his will is to be done. The obedient ones of mankind will there be privileged to enjoy the benefits of the Theocracy under Christ Jesus who has stated "I am the Resurrection and Life, he that believeth in me though he were dead yet shall he live, and whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die."
Memorial Services were held at the Stewart Funeral Home in Wamego at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, February 11th, by Mr. J. W. Chelander of Randolph, and burial followed in the St. George Cemetery.
