HAFENSTEIN-PAGELER The marriage of Miss Selma Pageler the accomplished and charming daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Otto Pageler of Kaw township, to Mr. Harold Hafenstein, of the Hendricks Creek community, son of Mrs. Gus Hafenstein was solemnized at the Peace Evangelical church, Alma at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon, January 28th. The bridal party entered the church and approached the altar to the strain of Lohengrin's Wedding March, played by Mrs. August Erikson and Rev T. L. Boesch read the impressive double ring ceremony in the presence of eighty-five invited guest and relatives. the bride wore white crepe-de-chine and carried a beautiful arm bouquet of roses. Bridesmaids were Miss Minnie Jung, who wore a n orchid satin dress and silver slippers and Miss Ethel Hasenbank who wore a blue stain dress and silver slippers; both carried roses. Iva Hafenstein and Harry Pageler were Flower Girl and Ring Bearer and carried the ring within a basket of roses. The groom wore conventional dress. He was attend by Mr. Arnold Hafenstein and Mr. Arthur Herren. A reception was held at the home of the bride's parents in Kaw township immediately after the ceremony. A wedding dinner was served to relatives and friends, after which the bridal couple were chavairied by many friends of that community. They were the recipients of many beautiful and useful gifts. Both these young folks are well known in this community, the bride has grown to womanhood in Kaw township; the groom has been reared in this community and both have many fiends who unite in congratulations to this worthy couple. They have rented a farm in Kaw township and will soon be at home to their friends. Relatives from a distance who attended the wedding were: Mr. and Mrs. Will Herren, North English, IA; Mr. and Mrs. George Helgens, Scotch Bluff, IA; George Harmes, Monticello, IA WAMEGO: Mrs. Selma Hafenstein, 78, rural Wamego, died late Thursday, April 28, 1988, at her home. She had cancer. Mrs. Hafenstein and her husband farmed and sh was a cook 18 years in a Wamego tavern. She also had owned and operated the tavern two years. she was born May 21, 1909, in the Wells Creek community southeast of Wamego, the daughter of Otto and Katherina Pageler and spent her life in the community. Mrs. Hafenstein was a member of Wells Creek United Church of Christ and a former member of the Auxiliary to Kaw Valley Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1258 in Wamego. She was married to Harold Hafenstein Jan. 28, 1931 at Alma. He died Jan 22, 1987. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. La Verta Rush, Wamego; three grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Services will be at 2 pm Monday at Stewart Funeral Home in Wamego. Burial will be in Wamego City Cemetery. Mrs. Hafenstein will lie in state after 9 am Saturday at the funeral home where relatives and friends will meet from 7 until 8 pm Sunday. Memorial contributions may be made to the Center for Basic Cancer Research, Kansas State University Foundation, Manhattan.
