RITES ARE HELD FOR CHARLES WENDT Final rites were held Saturday, Dec. 31 for Charles Frederick Wendt, 76, long time Manson resident who had died the previous Wednesday;. Rev. Robert bond officiated in First Congregational church, of which Mr. Wendt had been a member for almost 40 years. Lloyd Wendt, Mrs. Alton Rosenquist, Mr. and Mrs. George Henn sang "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere" and "abide With Me" accompanied by Ardis Garrels. Those in charge of flowers were Mrs. Elida Julius, Mrs. Gladys Griffith and Mr and Mrs. Clair Nelson. Burial was in Rose Hill cemetery. Pallbearers were six nephews, John Doster of Knierim, Lawrence Pogeler, Bab Wendt, August Wend, Arthur M. Johnson and John Zehr. Mrs. Wendt, a native of Calhoun county was born in Sherman township, October 26, 1879, son of John and Marie Lempke Wendt. He was married to Elizabeth Pogeler on January 27, 1904. To this union were born two daughters, Mabel (Mrs. W. F. Bryant) of Sioux City, and Edna Mae Wendt at home. The two daughters helped to honor their parents at the time of the couple's golden wedding anniversary in January, 1954. After their marriage the Wendts lived for some years on a farm near Manson, then moved into town where they made their home the past 40 years. Mrs. Wendt was employed by the town of Manson for almost 26 years, until last May. In June he suffered a stroke, and was hospitalized six weeks. He was bedfast the past six months. His survivors include his wife and two daughters; a grandson Bruce Bryant and two great grandchildren, Richard and Barbara Bryant of Elk Point, S. Dak; a brother Frank Wendt of Des Moines; three sisters Mrs. Ida Doster of Knierim, Mrs. Herman Pogeler and Mrs. Clara Johnson; a step sister, Mrs. Kate Groshong of Yorktown, Ind. The son-in-law and daughter were here from Sioux City for the services as were also the grandson and his wife from South Dakota; also Mr. and Mrs. George Bryant of Sulphur Springs.l
