Birth:
He was born on the 10th of March 1803 in a house in the 'An der Weide' street in the village Leeste near Syke in Lower Saxony in Germany. His parents were Johann and Beke Bode. (E1)

Childhood:
He grew up on his father's farm in Leeste. (E1)
One of his brothers probably inherited it.

Work:
When he was a young man, he was a cottager (German: Häusler). (E1)
In 1827 he was a cottager and transported goods with horse-drawn carts (German: Frachtfuhrmann). He did not have a wealth of 200 Reichstaler (the currency at that time). He owned two horses. (E8)
In 1837 he was a cottager owning one cart for transporting goods (German: Frachtwagen) and two horses. (E9)
In 1840 he was a cottager owning one cart for transporting goods and three horses. In a register his solidarity and honesty were both described as good. (E10)
In 1845 he was described as a cottager, 'Frachtfuhrmann' and owner of two female horses (German: Stuten) and two castrated male horses (German: Wallachen). (E11)
He was recorded in a list of parishioners of the Lutheran church in Leeste in 1849. (E12)
In 1845 he bought the farm No. 102 (1852 “Brandkataster”/ census No. 125) in Leeste. (E13)
Thus he became an "Anbauer". (E1)
Today the address of this property is Angelser Str. 9, Weyhe-Leeste.
The house on the property was destroyed during World War II. The current owner, Mr Speckmann, said that the back wall (German: Giebel) had the date 1844 in the form of iron anchors (German: Mauerankern). The front wall was replaced about 1900.

Unmarried Fatherhood:
The single Catherine Margarethe Paul, who was also from Leeste, gave birth to a son in 1824 in Leeste. She cited Johann Bode, who was then 21 years old, as the father. (E1)

Marriage:
He married the young mother eight months later. The wedding was on the 1st of May 1825 in Leeste. (E1)
They raised a family in Leeste. (E1)
During the 1852 census the widower Johann Bode and his unmarried children Heinrich and Margarethe were living in house No. 102 (Brandkataster Nr. 125). (E2)
In 1855 he shared his house with his son-in-law Johann Heinrich Hollwedel and his family, and a family named Brümmer. Diedrich Brümmer was a cottager. (E2)
During the 1858 census the Brümmer family were no longer living in the house. (E2)
During the 1861 census, Johann Bode, his daughter Margarethe, the cottager Johann Nietz and Johann Nietz's son were living in house No. 102. (E2)

Death:
He died at 3 a.m. on the 6th of December 1864 of a chest ailment in Leeste. He was 61 years old. He was buried in the cemetery there three days later. (E1)
After his death, in 1865, house Nr. 102 in Leeste was bought by a man named Heinrich Klagmeyer.
The owner in 1997 was a Mr Speckmann.
