1. Obituary From an obituary taken from an unknown Cape Girardeau, MissouriNewspaper, date unknown: JOSEPH EDMOND HILL Was Pioneer in Bus Line Enterprises "Joseph E. Hill, 66 years old, owner of the Yellow taxicab line here,and a pioneer in the bus line business, died of an internal hemorrhageat his home, 404 Bellevue Street, at 3:30 o'clock Wednesday afternoon.Although not in the best of health for a year, Mr. Hill did not becomeseriously sick until Wednesday morning. Mr. Hill, who was widely knownhere and in the district, was born at Freeburg, Ill., Aug. 29. 1875,and was reared on a farm in central Illinois. He was married Oct. 10,1899, to Miss (s/b Mrs. CJH) Minnie May Carter. To Cape in 1920 "His business career was started in 1902 at Marion, Ill., when he hada flour mill and a soda water bottling franchise. Eighteen years laterhe disposed of his business interests there and moved to CapeGirardeau. He founded the H-H Produce Co., on South Spanish Street,but sold it in 1925, then organized the Southeast Missouri TransitCorp., which operated between St. Louis and Memphis Tenn. The bus linewas sold to the Greyhound interests in 1928, and Mr. and Mrs. Hillmoved to Jackson, Miss. There he formed the Capital Stages Bus Line,between Memphis and New Orleans. After a year this company was sold tothe Greyhound Lines. Ran Illinois Line "In 1930 they moved back to Cape Girardeau, following which Mr. Hillfounded the Sunnyland Stages, running between St. Louis and Memphis,through Illinois. After disposing of the Sunnyland company, he startedthe Yellow Cab taxicab line here, and was head of it at time of hisdeath. Besides his widow, Mr. Hill is survived by a daughter (actuallystep-daughter. CJH), Mrs. A. A. Mozley of Puerto Rico, two grandsons,one great-grandchild and a brother, Sam Hill, of Freeburg, Ill. Thegrandsons are L. V. Hill, Jr., of Cape Girardeau and Wm. Mozley, apupil in Central High School here. Mr. Hill's parents, Mr. and Mrs.Peter Hill, a son and a sister preceded him in death. The body is atthe Brinkoph-Howell Funeral Home. Final arrangements for the funeralservices will depend upon whether Mrs. Mozley is able to come here forthe rites." Obituary from another Cape Girardeau, Missouri Newspaper: "Joseph Edmond Hill died 3 Dec. 1941; buried 'Rose Hill' Cem, Marion,Williamson County, Illinois. He died at Cape Girardeau." Joseph Edmond Hill and Minnie May Grisham had only one child, a son,Lloyd Vernell Hill, Sr..
