Leon Solomon MEHRER

Obituary Leon S. Mehrer of Pierre, passed away Jan 18, 2011, at St. Mary'sHealthcare Center in Pierre, Hughes Co, SD. Interment following atMedicine Hill Cemetery in Harrold. Leon Solomon Mehrer was born Aug 19, 1923, to Emanuel Mehrer and Lydia(Gall) Mehrer in Yankton County. Leon attended country schools in theHarrold area, after the family relocated there in 1927 when he was4-years old. In 1943, his parents retired to Harrold. Leon and his brother, Elmer,took over the family farm. They were partners for about 40 years. Leon married Bertie Wood in 1988, and in 1997 they sold the farm andmoved to Pierre. Leon was a member of Faith Lutheran Church. He alsoenjoyed his coffee time with his buddies and visiting family andfriends on their farms. Farming remained dear to Leon and he tookevery opportunity to be involved with that passion. . Leon is survived by his brother, Elmer (Delores) Mehrer, of Pierre;sisters, Alma Buechler, of Pierre, and Adeline Rothenberger, of SiouxFalls; stepsons, Richard (Monica) Wood, of Sturgis, and Timothy Wood,of Colorado Springs, CO; and 16 nieces and nephews.He was preceded indeath by his wife, Bertie; parents; four sisters, Lea Rothenberger,Laura Gramm, Tillie Rowton and Dorline Furgeson; brother, Oscar; andthree nephews.
