Emigrated in 1833 to the United States through Le Havre to New Orleans, Louisiana where she married Jakob Schmitt. Together, they traveled to Cincinatti, Ohio where they remained for a short time with other members of the Baas family. They later moved to join the Schmitt family in Jefferson County, Pennsylvania around 1835. Several of Katharina's siblings lived in Cincinatti, Ohio and Ripley County, Indiana, where her father died. Family records suggested that they married in 1832, but this is impossible seeing that Katharina was married to another man and was still living in Bavaria at this time. The most probably occurrence is that after her husband's death (or possible abandonment), Jakob and Katharina were married in 1833 after traveling to the United States with the Adam Baas family of Winzeln.
