"A PIONEER WOMAN DEAD.
The death of Mrs. Sarah Brockman, widow of the late Asa Brockman,
which occurred at her home one and a half miles north of Camden on
Saturday, November 17th, removes one of Ray county's oldest and best
women. Mrs. Brockman was born October 9th, 1829, and had just entered
her 81st year when death summons came to her. Her maiden name was Sarah
F. Hudgens and she was a daughter of B.A. Hudgens, who was one of the
first settlers of Ray county. She was married to Asa Brrockman in the
autum of 1852 and to them nine children were born, five of whom survive
her. Mrs. Brockman was a member of the Church of Christ and her long
and useful life was filled with many good deeds.
Rev. Gray, of Carrollton, conducted the funeral Monday and the body
was laid to rest in the family burying ground on the Brockman farm."
