Notes from Brian Gaber:

First name was probably spelled "Constancya" in early years. The surname appears as "Lovinski", "Lawinski" and sometimes "Lowinski". Arrived in America (Milwaukee) with first husband Martin Sczygelski in 1873. Children Albert, Joseph, and Stella Sczygelski took the name of Mazer (adopted) after their mother's marriage to Valentine Mazer. There are death records for Albert and Joseph Mazer in Portage County, WI.

Celebrates 93rd Birthday

Mrs. Constance Wayerski of Junction City enjoyed a gala occasion last Tuesday afternoon, when a party was held at the home of her granddaughter, Mrs. Victor Lesavich, in honor of her 93rd birthday. Sixteen friends brought a bountiful lunch with them, including a candle lighted cake, and also presented her with a purse of money.

Mrs. Wayerski, who is affectionately known as "Grandma" to everyone in the village, was born November 22, 1845, in Germany. Her maiden name was Constance Lowinski. She was married to Martin Stygielski in 1870, and after their son, Joseph, was born, the three came to the United States in 1873. They made the trip on a vessel called "Whitehill", which crossed the ocean on its second voyage, leaving Germany on March 1.

They arrived in Dunkirk, New York March 19, and after staying there several months they came west to Stevens Point. Their son, Albert, was born here, and Mr. Stygielski died here in 1876. Two years later she married William Mazor of Stevens Point. Two of the five children born to them are still living, Mrs. James Kotas and Pauline Mazor of Milwaukee. Mr. Mazor died in March 1887, and in the following July she married John Wayerski of Junction City, moving to a farm a short distance from the village. They were the parents of one daughter, Helen, who is now Mrs. Leo Borski of Junction City. In 1915 they sold their farm and purchased a little home in the village, where "Grandma" still lives. Mr. Wayerski died in 1922.

Living alone, "Grandma" does all her own work, splits her kindling, carries in her wood and tends a large garden full of fruits and vegetables. Last year she even spaded an additional large plot of ground where she planted potatoes. She not only has all the vegetables and flowers for her own use, but is generous with them among friends.

"Grandma" has 21 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

Obituary for Constance Wayerski

Stevens Point (WI) Daily Journal, 3 March 1941

Mrs. Constance Wayerski

Junction City's oldest resident is dead. Mrs. Constance Wayerski, age 95, known to her friends as "Grandma", died Saturday night at 10:30 o'clock at St. Michael's Hospital in Stevens Point.

In spite of her advanced years, Mrs. Wayerski lived alone in her little home in Junction City and cared for herself. She was on her way to a neighbor's home across the street when she slipped on the ice in her yard and fell. She broke her hip and was removed to the hospital by ambulance. She had made several trips to the post office, which is four or five blocks from her home, earlier in the day.

A native of Poland, Mrs. Wayerski, was born on November 22, 1845, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Valentine Lovinski. She was married in her native land to Martin Sczygelski and the couple came to this country in 1873. Mr. Sczygelski died six years after their marriage. They were the parents of three children, Joe, Albert, and Stella, all of whom preceded their mother in death.

She was later married to Valentine Mazor, who died nine years after their marriage. They were the parents of three children, Mary, Frances, and Pauline. Miss Pauline Mazor is the only surviving child of this marriage. Mrs. James Kotas, the former Mary Mazor, died last January.

She was subsequently married to John Wayerski, who preceded his wife in death 19 years ago. They were parents of a daughter, Mrs. Leo (Helen) Borski of Eau Pleine.

After coming to this country, Mrs. Wayerski had lived at Milwaukee for a time, later coming to Stevens Point, and then relocating in the Junction City vicinity. She first lived on a farm in the town of Eau Pleine, later settling in Junction City.

Surviving are the two daughters, Miss Pauline Mazor of Milwaukee and Mrs. Leo Borski of Eau Pleine, 24 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren. A nephew, John Vichinski of Wisconsin Rapids, WI, died Saturday night and his funeral will be held at the same day and hour as that of Mrs. Wayerski.

Funeral services for Mrs. Wayerski will be held Wednesday morning at 9 o'clock at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Junction City. Burial will take place in the spring in the parish cemetery. The body is at Martens funeral home in Junction City where it will be until the time of the funeral.

Mrs. Wayerski was a member of the Rosary society of St. Michael's church.
