<p>Stevens Point Daily Journal</p><p>Stevens Point, Wisconsin, Portage County</p><p>Wednesday, September 13, 1944</p><p> </p><p>Mrs. George Stertz</p><p> </p><p>Mrs. George Stertz, age 51, wife of a Junction City rural mail carrier, died Tuesday morning at 8:30 o'clock at St. Joseph's hospital at Marshfield. She had been ill since November, 1943, and entered the hospital on August 2.</p><p> </p><p>A native of Chicago, Mrs. Stertz whose maiden name was Clara Martha Wayerski, was born on August 12, 1893. She was a daughter of Mrs. Mike Wayerski of the town of Eau Pleine and the late Mr. Wayerski. She came to Portage county as a child and the family located in the Junction City vicinity. Her marriage to Mr. Stertz took place in July, 1921, at Minneapolis. Since their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Stertz had resided at Junction City.</p><p> </p><p>Surviving besides her husband and mother are four children, Corp. Leroy Stertz of Lakeland, Fla., Private George N. Stertz of Camp Fannin, Texas, and DeLoyd Stertz, a senior at P. J. Jacobs High school, and Lenore Stertz, both residing at home, four sisters, Mrs. August Piekarski, Jr., and Mrs. Dan Skibba of Junction City, Mrs. Frank Piekarski of Wisconsin Rapids and Miss Mayme Wayerski of Eau Pleine, and four brothers, Frank, Jake, John and Mike Wayerski, Jr., of Eau Pleine. Private Stertz arrived home Sunday, called here by his mother's serious illness.</p><p> </p><p>Mrs. Stertz was a member of the auxiliary to George I. Furo post No. 281, American Legion, and formerly served as its treasurer. She was the first of its members to die since its organization 15 years ago. she was also a member of the Stevens Point camp of the Royal Neighbors of America.</p><p> </p>Funeral services will be held Friday morning at 9 o'clock at St. Michael's Catholic church at Junction City and burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Rev. F. A. Marmurowicz will officiate. The body is at the Martens funeral home at Junction City.
