Sources - Meryl Sturdy & Illinois State Journal. Every summer Bernard Bennett, a grandnephew of Henry's wife, Laura, would spend the summer with them. Each morning Bernard remembers walking the half mile or so to the store to buy milk for breakfast because Henry and Laura didn't have a refrigerator. Source - Bernard Bennett. His marriage record is found in Vol. 006, Page 0434. Certificate #15340. 1910 Illinois census says he was naturalized in 1876. 1930 Illinois census says he was a farmer. Obituary: Schwartz, Henry - of Rochester, died at 10:45 a.m. Wednesday, March 17, 1943, at St. John's Hospital, age 77 years. Survived by wife, Laura; several nieces and nephews. Member Rochester Methodist Church, Rochester lodge I. O. O. F. #268. Remains to C. L. Jones Funeral Home, Rochester, and at noon Friday will be removed to the Rochester Methodist Church, where funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Rev. William H. Day, assisted by Rev. John Honey, officiating. Burial in Rochester Cemetery. Remains may be viewed at the funeral home after 6 p.m. Thursday. Illinois State Journal, Thursday, 3/18/1943, page 2. Another obituary: Henry Schwartz, 77, of Rochester, former mayor of that city, died at 10:45 a.m. yesterday at St. John's hospital. He was born in Germany in July, 1865, the son of Karl and Elizabeth Schwartz. He came to America with his parents who settled in Cooper township and spent his entire life in Buckhart and Rochester. In 1891 he married Laura Gore. Mr. Schwartz served as mayor of Rochester for several years and while in that office obtained city water for the community. He was prominent in Democratic politics, a member of the Rochester I.O.O.F. No. 26 for over twenty-five years and filled all the various offices. He was a member of the Rochester Methodist church. Remains were taken to the C. L. Jones funeral home, Rochester, and at noon tomorrow will be removed to the Rochester Methodist church where funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. tomorrow. Rev. William H. Day assisted by Rev. John Honey will officiate and burial will be in the Rochester cemetery. Surviving are his wife, Laura; and several nieces and nephews. IRAD doesn't have it because it's too recent. I'd have to go to the Illinois State Archives in person or request it through the county which is more expensive. He required ambulance service on May 9, 1937. Cost for this was $3. He again required it on March 10, 1943. That cost was $5. This time it was to St. John's Hospital. On this same microfilm is a page of expenses with Henry's name at the top. It is unknown what this is. Source - LDS film 1302950. Expenses from Wilson Park Funeral Home: casket - $275; vault - $110; enbalming - $15; hearse - $15; notices - $3; opening grave - $8; clothes & pressing - $3.25; flowers - $10. Total - $439.25. Date on paperwork is March 17, 1943. Age was 77 years, 8 months, 7 days.
