Notes for this person
From the book History of Sangamon County (1881), page 867, 2nd column - One of the founders of Cooper Township in which Buckhart, Illinois, is located, was Benjamin A. Geiger. Benjamin had a sister named Anna who married a man with the surname of Gore. Anna and her husband lived in Mechanicsburg at the time the book was written. Wondering if Laura is a relation to them. The Gore and Geiger families were all members of the M. E. Church since 1841. Her grandnephew, Bernard Bennett, remembers his great Aunt Laura never went anywhere without wearing her blue bonnet. Source - Bernard Bennett. Obituary: Schwartz, Mrs. Laura Gore of Rochester, died at St. John's Hospital at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 12, 1943, age 75. Survived by brother, Louis E. Gore, niece, Mrs. Eleanor Pyle, both of Rochester, and nephew, Bernard Bennett, Springfield. Member of Rochester Methodist Church. Remains to C. L. Jones Funeral Home where they may be viewed after 1 p.m. Thursday until time of funeral at 2 p.m. Friday at Methodist church. Rev. William H. Day, assisted by Rev. John Honey, will officiate and burial will be in Rochester Cemetery. Another obituary: Mrs. Laura Gore Schwartz, 75, widow of Henry Schwartz, died at 10:30 a.m. yesterday at St. John's hospital. She was a lifelong resident of the Rochester community. Mrs. Schwartz was born in Rochester Feb. 13, 1868. She was the daughter of Mark and Florence Carter Gore. She was married in December, 1891, to Henry Schwartz who preceded her in death last March. She was a member of the Rochester Methodist church. Surviving her are one brother, Louis E. Gore, Rochester; a niece, Mrs. Eleanor Pyle, Rochester; and a nephew, Bernard Bennett, Springfield. Remains were removed to the C. L. Jones funeral home in Rochester. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. tomorrow in the Rochester Methodist church with Rev. William H. Day, assisted by Rev. John Honey, officiating. Burial will be in Rochester cemetery. Illiois State Journal, 5/13/1943, page 3. Death certificate #0000478. Illinois statewide online death index says she died in Springfield. She was the older of 2 children. Source - 1880 Illinois census. Her father was born in either Virginia or West Virginia in April of 1845. He was a carpenter. Her mother was born in New York in April of 1849. Her younger sister, Ethel L., was born in August of 1885 in Illinois. Source - 1900 Illinois census. Her father lived from 1845 to 1905, and her mother lived from 1849 to 6/8/1919. Sources - Rochester Cemetery & Florence's obituary. Expenses from Wilson Park Funeral Home - casket - $290; vault - $110; dress - $15; hearse - $15; enbalming - $15; ambulance - $5; flowers - $10; music - $6; opening grave - $8; notices - $3.
