His mother lived with him at the time. Longtime Road Commissioner for Cooper Township. He was so popular no one ran against him, and he remained Commissioner until his death. Elmer was a very quiet man but chuckled when he did speak. He listened to the radio a great deal, and he was an avid pinochle player. Source - William O. Pickett. Obituary: Elmer Schwartz, 74, of RR 1, Mechanicsburg, brother of Mrs. Frank A. Bridge of Springfield, died at 8:30 (8:50?) a.m. Thursday at St. John's Hospital. He was a member of Rochester Lodge No 635 AF & AM. In addition to his sister he is survived by his widow, Katie and a niece, Mrs. Dorothy Chatelain of RR2, Hillsboro. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Wilson Park Funeral Home, Rochester. Rev. J. Howard Kraps will officiate and burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Buckhart.
